對此曼奇尼說道 ：“這樣的抽簽結果對於我們來說太困難了 ，北馬其頓是一支非常出色的球隊 ，如果我們取勝對手的話還需要前往客場對戰葡萄牙與土耳其之間的勝者 。但是很明顯們和葡萄牙首先需要分別戰勝北馬其頓和土耳其 。我們對於出線非常自信而且樂觀 ，尤其是在出現一些困境的情況下 。”
“我們在世預賽中的發揮還不錯 ，即便是客場對戰瑞士 ，我們也應該取得勝利 ，但是很明顯我們沒有 。我們會希望避開葡萄牙隊，也許他們也希望避開我們 。我們之間的對決可以說是決賽級別的。”
需要指出的是 ，在意大利與瑞士的比賽中 ，意大利曾經獲得一個點球 ，而一旦點球罰入 ，意大利也會擊敗瑞士 ，也會直接晉級世界杯正賽 ，但是最終若日尼奧丟點 。在此番接受采訪時，曼奇尼也被問到誰是意大利點球主罰者 ，對此曼奇尼說道 ：“首先 ，他們得給我們點球才行 。”
