16年前，球迷來自美國的抵制富豪馬爾科姆-格雷澤完成了對曼聯的收購 。但是连锁這樁交易卻成了曼聯噩夢的開始。當時，反应方担老格雷澤的曼联總資產隻有10億英鎊 ，而買曼聯需要7.9億英鎊，错失因此格雷澤家族采取了貸款的亿镑忧受方式 ，這使得曼聯背上了沉重的合同經濟負擔。據今年3月份的最新財報，16年後，曼聯依然背負著4.55億英鎊的債 。
曼聯球迷對於格雷澤家族非常不滿 ，曼聯俱樂部無視球迷和球員而參加歐超的舉動 ，則成為了點燃怒火的導火索 。上周末的埃蘭路球場上空 ，飄揚著格雷澤滾蛋的橫幅 ，而在老特拉福德球場外，有更多的球迷聚集 ，打出“0億英鎊被竊取#格雷澤家族滾蛋”的橫幅。
英國《太陽報》表示，曼聯球迷打算抵製俱樂部的讚助商 ，來加強對格雷澤家族所有權的抗議。有一群球迷起草了一封信函，發送給俱樂部的所有商業讚助商 ，敦促他們停止讚助 。信函的標題是“別再給他們一分錢” ，信中寫道 ：支持格雷澤 ，等同於對曼聯的攻擊。為此 ，曼聯球迷會抵製你的產品，反對你的品牌 ，並支持你的競爭對手 ，直到你終止與格雷澤家族的商業夥伴關係 。
而這一舉動也引發了連鎖反應 。來自英國媒體《衛報》的消息稱，曼聯也因此錯失了一份十年總價2億英鎊的讚助合同 。據悉 ，此前曼聯已經與THG集團談定了這份2億英鎊的合同（曼聯的訓練服與訓練場讚助商） ，而在目前的局勢下 ，THG集團擔憂如果和曼聯合作 ，企業可能會在曼徹斯特地區遭遇球迷抵製 ，因此在上周五撤回了此前的報價 。
