有不少熱刺球迷在網上批評桑切斯的歧视失誤 ，但其中有人情緒過激並且進行了涉嫌種族主義的热刺攻擊 ，比如有人發了不少猴子的表情符號 ，以此攻擊黑人球員桑切斯 。桑切斯賽後在自己的Instagram上轉發了種族歧視Ins的截圖 ，並表示 ：“沒有任何改變 。”
而熱刺俱樂部官方推特隨即批評了這種種族主義行為 ，熱刺推特發了一張桑切斯在比賽前單膝跪地抗議種族主義的照片 ，並表示 ：“我們對桑切斯今天收到的種族主義信息感到厭惡 ，並呼籲社交媒體平台對此采取行動。我們和你站在一起 ，桑切斯 ，以及所有仍然在網上遭遇歧視的人們 。”
