伊朗足協主席阿齊茲·哈德姆當地時間6月27日正式宣布，伊朗率隊逆轉闖入12強賽的主帅征战主教練德拉甘·斯科西奇將繼續執教伊朗國家隊 ，出戰未來的斯科12強賽 。
在葡萄牙教練奎羅斯執教伊朗國家隊整整8年 、西奇於2019年亞洲杯賽結束離開之後 ，获新合同伊朗足協聘請了前比利時國家隊主教練威爾莫茨出任主帥，继续開始準備2022年卡塔爾世界杯預選賽 。强赛但威爾莫茨因為個性問題 ，伊朗與伊朗球員以及足協之間鬧得很不愉快 ，主帅征战加上球隊在世預賽亞洲區40強賽第一循環比賽中 ，斯科連續輸給巴林與伊拉克 ，西奇伊朗足協在2019年底宣布與威爾莫茨分手 。获新合同斯科西奇則是继续2020年2月接手伊朗國家隊主教練的 。
由於當時是强赛為應對2020年3月份以及6月份的世預賽40強賽第二循環的比賽，因而伊朗足協與斯科西奇簽訂的伊朗隻是短期合同，即在40強賽結束之後 ，雙方便結束合同，也不管斯科西奇是否率隊出線 。後因為疫情導致世預賽延期 ，因而直至今年6月中旬 ，伊朗隊才完成了40強賽任務 ，並最終順利獲得12強賽參賽資格 。
因斯科西奇與伊朗足協的合同已經期滿 ，而伊朗足協又沒有馬上給出說法 ，因而伊朗國內的媒體說法頗多，包括重新聘請新的外籍主教練 ，甚至有媒體稱奎羅斯 、伊萬諾維奇等這些曾經“很香”的前任 ，也可能重新回歸。
不過27日伊朗足協主席哈德姆明確表示 ：“伊朗足協已經和斯科西奇協商達成了一致 ，雙方均同意將合同期限延長至12強賽結束，也就是至2022年3月底 。”
目前，伊朗足協和斯科西奇就在等待7月1日的12強賽抽簽 。“在抽簽揭曉之後 ，伊朗隊將決定更合理的備戰計劃 ，足協將全力以赴支持配合 ，並希望能夠在12強賽中表現出伊朗足球的實力與水準 。”哈德姆說道 。
據悉，如果斯科西奇能夠率伊朗隊從12強賽中出線 ，順利拿到世界杯入場券，他與伊朗足協的合同還將繼續順延 。
