據俄媒消息，俄足鑒於今年歐洲杯上俄羅斯男足的协放糟糕戰績，俄羅斯足協計劃在聯賽中取消俱樂部外援注冊限製名額，开外俄足協主席亞曆山大·久科夫也證實了這個計劃 。援限有益于国
2018年世界杯 ，制称字号俄羅斯男足在國產教練切爾切索夫的球队帶領下成功打入到8強 ，這也是水平俄羅斯足球繼2008年歐洲杯打入4強後的又一次驚人之舉 。然而三年後 ，提升俄羅斯男足在今年的俄足歐洲杯上小組賽的表現大跌眼鏡 ，小組賽僅勝一場慘遭淘汰 ，协放因此主帥切爾切索夫的开外高薪一度成為俄羅斯國內詬病的內容 。
按照久科夫的援限有益于国說法 ，“新的制称字号外援計劃涉及到外援人數的變化 ，確切地說是球队原則上取消外援人數限製 。”俄羅斯足協取消外援人數限製的水平想法源於2008年和今年歐洲杯俄羅斯男足的表現對比 ，“2008年 ，俄羅斯國內聯賽外援數量遠比現在多 ，那時的國家隊表現也比現在更好 。”
值得一提的 ，現在的俄羅斯超級聯賽每支俱樂部隊一線球員賽季注冊球員數為“8+17” ，即新賽季每支球隊最多允許注冊8名外援 ，但聯賽中通過注冊的外援上場人數則沒有限製 。 而更早前 ，俄羅斯足球國內聯賽外援政策施行的是每支球隊一場比賽上場外援人數不超過6人 ，但注冊時則沒有人數限製 。
據悉 ，在7月份俄羅斯足協協同荷蘭專業賽事公司“超級立方體”提出了一份國內聯賽改革的計劃 ，其中包括四種方案 。
