菲律賓隊5月29日中午通過官方渠道宣布 ，菲律其征調的宾队25名球員中 ，已有9人確認無法來華參加40強賽A組餘下比賽 。仅人他們同時確認 ，华战算上緊急補充征調的强赛4名球員 ，全隊累計僅19名球員來華參賽 。人已中國隊麵對一支缺兵少將的因故菲律賓隊，完全有能力取得一場勝利 。宣布
當地時間5月20日晚 ，退出菲律賓隊從馬尼拉出發前往卡塔爾多哈備戰 。菲律出發前 ，宾队球隊曾公布了一份25人的仅人40強賽備戰球員名單。不過其中4人當時就曾明確表示 ，华战尚未辦理完隨隊出訪的强赛相關手續 。這4人分別是人已在德乙波鴻隊效力的中場球員霍爾特曼、在德國第3級聯賽馬格德堡隊效力的中場奧貝爾瑪爾、在瑞典聯賽效力的尼霍爾姆以及在挪威莫爾德預備隊效力的法格利 。
在上述4人中 ，除奧貝爾瑪爾在菲律賓足協幫助下領到菲律賓護照外 ，其餘3人均未能領到護照。而奧貝爾瑪爾後來也因故放棄了多哈之行 。
中國球迷相對熟悉的菲律賓隊原頭號門將埃瑟裏奇 ，因接受手術治療 ，同樣缺席40強賽餘下比賽 。
在缺席中國行的9人中 ，有4人作為主力參加了2019年10月中 、菲兩隊在40強賽的首回合交鋒 。而在菲律賓隊確認此次來華參賽的19名球員中 ，僅有8人參加過兩隊2019年的比賽 ，其中5人在當時首發出場 。其他球員大多新近入選或是重返球隊，其戰鬥力難免打折扣 。據悉 ，4名增補入隊的球員將於當地時間29日晚些時候抵達多哈與菲律賓隊匯合 。
菲律賓隊人員不整 ，但他們仍是中國隊衝擊12強賽征程上的主要競爭對手之一 ，中國隊沒有理由輕敵 。
