其實，离刚在40強賽結束後 ，好备李鐵的战强合同就已經期滿 。當初中國足協與他做出這樣的赛卡顺利赛約定 ，也完全在情理之中 。尔德如果國足未能晉級 ，克若可参肯定要更換主教練；如果順利出線 ，国足归隔归化而且在晉級路上表現還不錯 ，再與主教練續約也不遲 。
李鐵帶隊參加的4場40強賽中 ，國足也暴露出了慢熱 、防守有漏洞等問題 ，但總的來說 ，球隊表現還不錯，更取得了四連勝的戰績 。此種情況下，足協不可能再做其他考慮 。更何況 ，受疫情影響 ，現階段也不可能選聘外教 。
時間緊迫 ，距離12強賽開打隻有兩個半月 ，保持球隊穩定非常重要。種種因素綜合起來 ，李鐵續約隻是時間問題 。在國足晉級那一刻 ，由他帶領球隊角逐12強賽就已成為定局 。
40強賽競爭其實並不激烈，國足形勢一度凶險 ，主要是因為在客場被菲律賓隊逼平。到了12強賽階段，場場都是硬仗 。國足如果隻是正常發揮 ，遠遠不夠 。所以必然要花更多時間來進行備戰 。中超受到衝擊已經板上釘釘 ，改製 、跨年勢在必行 。目前 ，足協和職業聯盟籌備組正在征求俱樂部意見。
備戰要充分 ，人員也要補充 。之前卡爾德克曾透露說 ，他正在辦理入籍事宜 ，深圳俱樂部隨後也證實了這一消息 。如果他能夠順利加入國足 ，參加12強賽，國足進攻能力將得到進一步加強 。屆時，因傷缺席40強賽的費南多也將歸隊 。
