本屆歐洲杯 ，荷蘭止步16強 ，尔姆德波爾隨後下課 。巴佩根據荷蘭媒體的出众報道 ，荷蘭足協希望範加爾出山，团队踢球出任荷蘭國家隊主帥。范加日前接受《隊報》采訪時 ，尔姆範加爾也談到了自己對於本屆歐洲杯的巴佩一些看法 。
對於姆巴佩的出众表現 ，範加爾表示 ，团队踢球“從身體條件和技術上來看 ，范加姆巴佩是尔姆一名極為出色的球員，但在戰術層麵上 ，巴佩他還沒有達到最高的出众水準 。他可以過人然後丟掉球權 ，团队踢球這樣的情況發生了很多次 。我不禁自問 ：他是為了球隊在踢球嗎？”
“大家希望他調整狀態 ，但他謙虛嗎 ？他看到隊友的暗示了嗎 ？所以你覺得他是在為球隊踢球嗎？我不這麽認為 ，我希望看到球員有能力處理這種團隊問題 。”
而對於歐洲杯24隊參賽的賽製，範加爾同樣也有質疑，“我看了很多比賽 ，我在足壇最頂級的領域工作了40多年 ，所以我會選擇一些我喜歡的比賽 ，我沒有在歐洲杯期間觀看全部的比賽 。”
“歐足聯在賽製方麵犯了錯誤 ，你看看歐洲杯 ，有很多比賽質量都不高 ，我們將很弱的球隊也放到了歐洲杯當中 。冰球比賽中 ，會分成A 、B 、C組 ，大家按照各自的水平進行對陣 。所有的比賽應該都非常精彩才是 ，比如克羅地亞對陣西班牙的比賽 ，還有瑞士對陣法國的比賽 ，這才是我們希望看到的比賽 。”
