在早些時候結束的缘战亚特意甲聯賽第26輪比賽中 ，羅馬主場2-2戰平維羅納 。官方由於補時時間過短 ，穆帅羅馬主帥穆裏尼奧在場邊爆發了 ，嘲讽裁判场罚他對當執主裁判盧卡-帕雷托（Luca Pairetto）做出了打電話的禁赛手勢，隨後穆裏尼奧被紅牌罰下 。缘战亚特根據意大利媒體《La Stampa》透露，官方穆裏尼奧對著主裁判邊做打電話的穆帅手勢 ，邊喊到 ：“他們是嘲讽裁判场罚故意派你來的 ，是禁赛尤文圖斯派你來的吧。”據悉 ，缘战亚特盧卡-帕雷托的父親是皮爾魯吉-佩雷托（Pierluigi Pairetto） ，後者曾在“電話門”事件中被起訴 ，受到了兩年半時間內禁足的處罰 ，並在隨後將處罰追加到了三年半。
比賽結束後 ，羅馬管理層意甲就穆裏尼奧的言行向當執主裁判詳盡的表達了歉意 ，但羅馬體育總監平托並未參與這次道歉行動 。不過 ，這並沒能讓穆裏尼奧等人逃脫意甲聯盟官方的處罰。意甲聯盟官方表示 ，穆裏尼奧因為行為不當被禁賽2場 ，罰款2萬歐元；羅馬體育總監平托被禁賽至3月8日；穆裏尼奧的助理教練路易斯-達科斯塔-桑托斯禁賽2場；體能教練拉佩帝因為侮辱維羅納替補球員和褻瀆神明被禁賽1場 ，罰款5000歐 。
在接下來的兩輪聯賽中 ，羅馬將先後客場挑戰斯佩齊亞 、主場迎戰亞特蘭大。意甲官方的處罰意味著穆裏尼奧無法在場邊指揮這兩場比賽 。意甲聯賽26輪戰罷 ，羅馬以12勝5平9負積41分的成績排名第8位 ，落後第四名尤文圖斯6分 。值得一提的是 ，盡管羅馬的成績並不盡如人意 ，但穆裏尼奧依然得到了紅狼擁躉的力挺 。在羅馬特裏戈裏亞訓練基地外麵的牆壁上 ，羅馬球迷張貼了橫幅 ：“你是我們的信仰，你把你的精神帶到了羅馬 ，你擁有羅馬城的鑰匙 。”
