其實在比賽剛剛開始5分鍾的机终局時候 ，蘇格蘭就錯失了一次絕佳的吞苦進球機會 。當時 ，果主羅伯遜左側帶球後分球麥金 ，阻小组出後者起球至小禁區內，苏格失良亞當斯門前極佳位置跟進沒踢著 ，兰屡利难皮球被守門員沒收 。机终局也就是說 ，如果亞當斯跟進是稍微再往前走一步的話，這個球就有可能被他撞進空門 ，一旦進球 ，這場比賽的走勢自然就不一樣了 。
不過 ，在賽場上並沒有如果這一說 ，隨後的比賽對於蘇格蘭來說就顯得非常的艱苦 ，尤其是在先丟一球的情況下 。雖然在半場比賽結束前，蘇格蘭由邁克格雷戈將比分扳平 ，但到來下半場 ，克羅地亞主導了比賽 ，莫德裏奇與佩裏西奇的進球 ，徹底打破了蘇格蘭人的晉級夢 。
值得一提的是 ，從全場數據上來看，我們也不難發現蘇格蘭在賽場上取得了一定的機會 ，全場比賽 ，蘇格蘭在射門方麵12-11領先 ，射正方麵4-7落後 。不得不說的是 ，由於有羅伯遜這樣一個世界級的飛翼在，蘇格蘭總是能在賽場上創造一些機會 ，可惜的是 ，他們的前鋒把握機會的能力實在是有些讓人不敢恭維 。
最終蘇格蘭輸掉了比賽，小組賽三輪僅僅交出了一份1平2負的糟糕成績單 。輸球之後，蘇格蘭無奈小組出局 ，雖然坐擁主場之利 ，但蘇格蘭人還是沒能打破曆史 ，未能從歐洲杯小組賽中脫穎而出 ，早早被淘汰出局 。
