和上賽季一樣，篑国國際米蘭與皇馬本賽季再一次被分到了歐冠同一個小組中，米射而且首輪比賽就是无功兩支豪門間的碰撞 。對於藍黑軍團來說 ，而返本場比賽無疑是连续轮难一場複仇戰 ，盡管歐冠曆史戰績兩支球隊平分秋色，季首不過上賽季藍黑軍團在歐冠中被銀河戰艦雙殺 ，获胜主場更是功亏0-2完敗給了皇馬 。這兩場失利也是篑国國米上賽季小組排名墊底無法出線的主要原因之一 。
比賽開始後 ，米射國米球員可謂全場飛奔，无功壓著皇馬輪番進攻。而返勞塔羅 、连续轮难哲科等人紛紛創造出了絕佳機會 ，季首要不是庫爾圖瓦的神勇發揮 ，藍黑軍團很有可能在上半場打爆銀河戰艦 。整個上半場 ，國際米蘭轟出了14次射門 ，其中有4次射正 ，而安切洛蒂的球隊則隻有5次打門 ，並且沒有一次射正。14次射門也成為2005-2006賽季以來皇馬歐冠被射門次數第二多的上半場，僅次於13年對陣尤文圖斯時的15次 。
下半場因為體力等原因 ，國際米蘭的進攻明顯下降了不少 ，但是他們還是創造了具有相當威脅的射門 ，比如哲科的頭球攻門。久攻不下必有隱憂 ，藍黑軍團的後防在第89分鍾被銀河戰艦破防，羅德裏戈和上賽季兩隊歐冠比賽一樣在最後時刻完成絕殺 。全場比賽，國際米蘭轟出18腳射門，但是最後隻能在主場飲恨而歸 ，這已經是他們在歐冠聯賽被皇馬三連殺了 。
其實因紮吉的藍黑軍團已經做得相當不錯了，奈何把握機會能力欠佳 ，此外在下半場皇馬起勢自己體力下降的情況下 ，也沒有做出對應的戰術調整，幾個換人調整最後來看效果也是不大 。這是國際米蘭連續第三個賽季無法在歐冠首輪贏球 ，也是自2011-2012賽季以來首次在歐冠小組賽第一輪遭遇失利 ，當時他們以0-1的比分不敵特拉布宗體育 ，不過那個賽季他們以小組頭名的身份出線 。但是上賽季的國米可沒這麽幸運 ，本賽季同小組的謝裏夫爆冷擊敗礦工 ，和上賽季的小組情況比賽類似 ，國際米蘭得小心了。
