北京時間11月6日 ，官方归诺西甲豪門巴薩在官網宣布 ，巴萨球隊與哈維簽訂了執教協議 ，宣布新帅雙方簽約2個半賽季 ，出任這位昔日的梦传巴薩名宿將會執掌巴薩的帥鞭。
巴薩在今夏迎來巨變 ，坎普隊內的官方归诺頭號球星梅西未能簽訂續約協議 ，因此自由身離隊加盟了巴黎。巴萨而隨著梅西的宣布新帅離開，巴薩的出任實力出現了巨大的下滑 ，球隊的梦传成績也非常糟糕。在前11輪的坎普西甲聯賽中 ，僅獲得了4勝3平3負的官方归诺成績 。在歐冠的巴萨前三輪小組賽中 ，巴薩1勝2負 ，宣布新帅晉級形勢也不樂觀 。而正是鑒於低迷的戰績 ，巴薩高層在10月28日正式解雇了主帥科曼 。
科曼下課後，巴薩也開啟了尋帥之旅，而最終名宿哈維成為了巴薩高層的選擇。需要指出的是，盡管哈維與阿爾薩德俱樂部有合同在身 ，但是哈維本人渴望到巴薩執教，因此親自勸說阿爾薩德俱樂部高層放人 。
哈維是一位擁有巴薩血統的球員 ，從小時候開始就在拉瑪西亞青訓營進行訓練 ，在1998年為巴薩一線隊出場 。在巴薩一線隊效力的17個賽季中 ，哈維為巴薩贏得了4次歐冠 、8次西甲冠軍等25個冠軍榮譽 。
哈維離開巴薩後加盟了卡塔爾球隊阿爾薩德 ，並在該隊退役，退役後的哈維成為了阿爾薩德的主帥 。執教阿爾薩德期間，哈維率隊5次打入杯賽決賽並全部奪冠 ，包括2次卡塔爾杯冠軍 、1次卡塔爾超級杯冠軍、1次卡塔爾酋長杯冠軍和1次卡塔爾王子杯冠軍 。2020-2021賽季，哈維帶隊提前4輪贏得了卡塔爾聯賽冠軍 。
