在今年的歐洲杯前 ，法國也是奪冠大熱門 ，但是德尚帶隊的高盧雄雞卻在1/8決賽中點球大戰輸給了瑞士無緣八強 。而在那屆大賽中 ，法國踢了4場比賽 ，隻有第一場比賽取勝 ，後三場比賽常規比賽時間都與對手踢成了平局 。
九月份的國際比賽周，法國隊在世預賽激戰三場 ，前兩場比賽 ，法國隊狀態依舊不好 ，分別與波黑以及烏克蘭踢成平局 。而在與烏克蘭踢平後，法國各項賽事五連平 ，這也是法國117年隊史首次遭遇各項賽事五連平 。
作為法國主帥 ，德尚遭遇了批評 。就在對戰芬蘭的比賽前 ，法國媒體《隊報》爆料稱 ，德尚的法國隊正經曆著一個充滿不確定性的艱難時期 。這家媒體表示 ，德尚的管理風格發生了轉變 ，與他典型的獨斷專行風格相反，現在他對於球員們的影響更加開放 ，這使得法國內部的紀律性下滑 。
而隨著主場2-0完勝芬蘭 ，德尚暫時走出了危機 。需要指出的是 ，目前法國隊贏得小組第一形勢非常好 ，現在的法國在6輪比賽後12個積分位居第一 ，而他身後是5分的烏克蘭與芬蘭，盡管兩隊比賽場次比法國少 ，但法國7分的領先優勢非常巨大 。
