7月15日 ，日本人毛日本足壇混血巨星塞爾吉奧·越後在其專欄中 ，混血化令談及日本男足的巨星12強賽分組時再次強調 ，一定不要忽視中國男足的别忽歸化軍團 。
其實在12強賽分組抽簽結果出爐之後 ，视中包括現任日本隊主帥森保一、国足骨悚名宿北澤豪以及眾多媒體已經多次提及了關於中國隊的球归問題 。多數人對於國足最大的日本人毛忌憚 ，就是混血化令目前多達5人 、未來依然可能增多的巨星歸化球員 。
作為出生於巴西的别忽日裔二代 ，塞爾吉奧·越後曾經入選過巴西隊的视中候補名單 ，與巴西巨星裏維利諾在科林蒂安時當過隊友 。国足骨悚1972年，球归25歲的日本人毛塞爾吉奧·越後“回”到日本踢球 ，並且在退役後深耕日本青訓的他 ，更加明白歸化球員的意義 。
“最令人毛骨悚然的就是中國隊的存在 。一直以來 ，中國足球的風格都很粗放 ，在日本隊看來他們或許是可以取分的對手 ，但是這次不一樣 。作為加強國家隊實力的環節 ，中國正在大力引進外籍球員，目前已經有艾克森、阿蘭 、費南多3名巴西人 ，以及蔣光太和李可2名英格蘭人 ，他們都在40強賽中表現出色 。”
這其中 ，塞爾吉奧·越後著重提了自己的巴西後輩艾克森 ：“值得一提的就是艾克森，他曾經被巴西隊征召但沒參加過比賽 ，在中國聯賽也曾經連續2年獲得最佳射手 。而且這5人之外 ，有傳言說還會繼續有新的歸化球員進來 。中國足球大概在描繪著一張藍圖 ，自2002年以來首次進軍世界杯，並且在不久的將來舉辦一次世界杯 。”
由於本身有著特殊的身份，因此塞爾吉奧·越後認為現代足球有歸化球員無可厚非 ：“也許有人會覺得中國足球的做法很狡猾 ，但隻要規則允許就沒有問題 。2022年世界杯的東道主卡塔爾也有歸化球員 ，球隊實力也得到了強化 。另外日本在以世界杯為目標的曆史中 ，也有借助過巴西人的力量 ，比如拉莫斯 、三都主 、田中鬥笠王。”
盡管我們總在爭論艾克森的水平在歸化後是不是下降了，但在塞爾吉奧·越後看來 ，歸化球員理應有著巨大的動力 ：“歸化球員應該是具有饑餓感的。雖然在原先的國家沒能入選國家隊 ，但歸化後或許能實現夢寐以求的參加世界杯的夢想。而且如果表現很棒的話，他們可以得到在原有國家根本想象不到的報酬和名聲。中國的歸化球員眼前 ，也一定掛著巨大的胡蘿卜 。”
