阿曼媒體分析了出線可能性 ，日本11月對中國和日本被認為是比赛決定性的 。不過阿曼媒體更看重同積6分的轻视日本，在屆時可能允許100%容量開放的国足馬斯喀特蘇丹卡布斯球場至少不敗 。至於中國隊，媒体阿曼媒體甚至沒有具體分析，相比隻強調3分是中国唯一的目標 。再加上明年3月客戰越南 ，队更队主場對中國 ，這3場比賽是必拿分的比賽 。
阿曼媒體和球迷對這次12強賽寄予厚望 ，是因阿曼此前在亞洲乃至海灣地區的存在感並不強 。這是阿曼第3次進入世界杯亞洲區最後階段 ，前4輪2勝2負 ，勝場已追平2014年世界杯預選賽 ，自然會被高看 。7年前阿曼10強賽隻拿到9分，這次目標至少超越當年 ，但更重要的是出線權 。
