北京時間5月27日 ，中國隊的森们訓練安排在下午舉行 ，艾克森接受了記者的目大胜的进采訪。
談到自己的标场步非狀態以及之前的隊內對抗賽，艾克森表示 ：“終於到了這樣一個時刻 ，武磊開始正式比賽了 ，艾克我們之前一直在長期訓練沒有正式比賽，森们現在我們非常期待這一時刻，目大胜的进我們的标场步非訓練質量一直不錯 ，前幾天我們打了教學賽 ，武磊質量也比較高 ，艾克我們也踢出了教練員的森们戰術要求，第一場與關島的目大胜的进比賽希望拿到一場大勝 ，我個人狀態也不錯 ，标场步非體能儲備也不錯，武磊爭取能夠有一個好的表現 。”
談到這種集中的賽會製比賽 ，艾克森表示 ：“這樣一個階段對於我們來說特別困難，長期集中 ，經常呆在酒店裏 ，時間長 ，離家人比較遠 ，跟他們在一起的時間比較少 ，我們球隊磨合了很長時間 ，將近1年半時間 ，我們相互比較熟悉 ，磨合的也不錯 ，隻要在比賽中打出平時訓練的戰術配合 ，比賽不會有問題。”
相比第一階段的40強賽 ，如今的中國隊歸化球員更多 ，艾克森也會獲得更多的幫手 。對此艾克森表示 ：“入籍球員水平不錯 ，會給球隊帶來很大的幫助 ，當然我們還有其他球員 ，每個球員都是必不可少的部分 ，我們現在就是要打好比賽 ，每個人都清楚自己身上的責任 。”
最近一兩個賽季 ，直接定位球成為了艾克森得分的一個重要手段 ，回到國家隊的比賽中 ，艾克森透露自己也在主動加練，希望能夠在40強賽中有定位球來幫助國家隊。
談到武磊 ，艾克森對他的進步感到吃驚 。“武磊的進步非常非常大 ，比較有意思的是 ，內部教學賽我給了他兩個傳球 ，他有兩個進球 ，他也給了我一個助攻 ，這也讓我想起我們在上港踢球的經曆 ，這段經曆非常美妙 ，當然相比當時 ，他取得了非常大的進步 。”
最近艾克森留起了胡子 ，也顯得蒼老了很多，不過在接受采訪時 ，艾克森表示 ，自己會在與關島隊的比賽前刮掉 。“我兒子才8個月 ，他對於我留胡子似乎不太喜歡。當然現在我們需要專注於比賽 ，賽後我希望能夠有時間陪伴家人 。”（搜狐體育 裴力）
