3月18日下午 ，江苏救亞足聯官方宣布江蘇隊退出亞冠 。退出此前在江蘇隊宣布暫停運營之後 ，亚冠外界曾猜測是证明否會由上賽季中超第6名的重慶兩江競技（原重慶當代）接替江蘇隊的亞冠參賽資格 。
3月1日 ，无任紅星新聞記者就曾解讀了亞冠參賽球隊的何抢会快準入規則——參加亞冠的球隊必須是各國聯賽前四名的球隊或杯賽冠軍 。所以在上賽季第四名上海海港已經取代山東泰山的散也亞冠名額後，中超其他球隊無法獲得本賽季亞冠的宣布參賽資格 。
而在今天亞足聯宣布江蘇隊退出亞冠的江苏救同時 ，也表示本來將通過附加賽競爭江蘇隊所在的退出G組最後一個席位的韓國浦項鐵人和泰國拉查武裏這兩支球隊不再進行較量，兩隊都將直接晉級亞冠G組 ，亚冠分別落座第一檔及第四檔席位。证明G組還有日本的无任名古屋鯨和馬來西亞的柔佛新山這兩支球隊 ，在江蘇隊退出的何抢会快情況下 ，最大的散也贏家應該是該組第二檔球隊名古屋鯨，他們小組出線的希望也因此大增 。
至於江蘇隊退出，完全不出乎外界的意料，在宣布暫停運營後 ，江蘇隊在長達半個月的時間裏沒有任何利好消息 ，外界都清楚該隊解散隻是時間問題 。在江蘇隊宣布暫停運營後，亞足聯也一直高度關注江蘇隊的最新情況，但由於江蘇隊並未正式宣布解散 ，亞足聯也在等待最後的結果 。3月11日，亞足聯宣布亞冠東亞區小組賽推遲到6-7月進行時 ，依然表示江蘇隊所在的G組將在泰國進行賽會製比賽 ，這說明當時亞足聯尚未最終確定江蘇隊的情況 。
3月18日亞足聯官宣江蘇隊退出 ，實際上也證明江蘇隊沒有任何“搶救”的可能 ，解散並退出中超的消息相信也會很快到來 。
