就在比賽結束的哨聲響起時 ，哈弗茨在右邊路被利茲聯球員故意衝撞 ，這引發了雙方球員間的衝突 。而呂迪格迅速從後方衝到衝突地點 ，為隊友出頭並且和利茲聯多名球員對峙。之後還是盧卡庫等隊友拉住了呂迪格 ，才避免了衝突進一步升級 。在這次衝突中沒有球員吃牌 ，但切爾西和利茲聯兩家俱樂部可能會在之後被英足總追加罰款處罰。
賽後切爾西主帥圖赫爾表示 ：“呂迪格在球場上是個情緒化的領袖 ，也是一個積極進取的領袖 ，如果有隊友需要保護或者發生爭吵 ，他肯定會參與 。這就是100%的呂迪格 。我能夠理解利茲聯的失望 ，因為我們也曾經曆過這種情況 ，你已經扳平了比分 ，但最後時刻輸掉了比賽，你會為此生氣和失望。利茲聯時一支強大的球隊，他們討厭輸球 ，就像我們一樣 ，因此他們在賽後變得情緒激動。我希望沒有造成任何傷害 。”
在之前兩場比賽切爾西都是最後時刻丟球 ，先是在英超聯賽2-3負於西漢姆 ，之後又3-3被澤尼特追平痛失歐冠小組頭名 。圖赫爾表示 ：“我相信我們能夠再一次扭轉局麵，你需要一點運氣的幫助才能在這麽晚的時間取得進球 ，但也許也該輪到我們了。我們迫切需要這場勝利，我很高興我們得到了勝利 。”
