本屆亞冠賽事 ，西亚中國共有四家俱樂部獲得參賽資格 ，记者将所届亚分別是发文山東泰山 、上海海港 、炮轰廣州隊和長春亞泰 。亚足有中但賽前 ，国球冠長春亞泰和上海海港因經濟 、队踢疫情等因素退賽 ，山東泰山和廣州隊則都派年輕小將出戰 。在小組賽首輪比賽中 ，山東泰山0-7不敵韓國大邱FC 、廣州隊0-5輸給泰國柔佛DT 。
在廣州隊在上半場0-4落後於川崎前鋒時 ，西亞記者Uri Levy發文炮轟 ：亞足聯應該將所有中國球隊踢出本屆亞冠 ，一支球隊這樣做 、其他球隊也效仿 、像廣州隊這樣的大俱樂部都讓U21梯隊來比賽 ，他們一場半比賽就丟了9球了 ，這對亞洲足球來說是一種災難 。
