北京時間6月19日 ，巴萨布双英國媒體《太陽報》援引西班牙媒體《世界體育報》消息 ，或梅巴塞羅那可能會在梅西生日當天（6月24日）宣布雙方續約的西生消息 ，阿根廷球王將簽訂一份新的日当兩年期合同 。與此前的天宣待遇相比 ，新合同的约岁薪資會稍微降低 。
早些時候 ，双喜巴塞羅那新主席拉波爾塔接受采訪時已經確認 ，临门梅西希望繼續在諾坎普踢球 ，巴萨布双雙方現在遲遲無法宣布續約是或梅因為財政因素 ，俱樂部需要出售一些球員 。西生西班牙媒體《世界體育報》則認為 ，日当巴塞羅那和梅西也有其它方麵的天宣考量，他們可能希望在一個有意義的约岁時間宣布這一消息 。該報甚至大膽猜測 ，双喜巴塞羅那或在梅西生日當天宣布雙方續約 ，即6月24日，屆時阿根廷球王將年滿34歲 。
英國媒體《太陽報》指出 ，梅西的未來能夠反轉 ，與巴塞羅那新主席拉波爾塔有關 。就在去年夏天 ，梅西險些離開諾坎普，當時他已經宣布離隊，但巴塞羅那時任主席巴托梅烏認定雙方還有合同，拒絕阿根廷球王自由身離隊 ，進而雙方險些對簿公堂。隨著巴托梅烏下課 ，拉波爾塔成為巴塞羅那新主席 ，使得很多事情反轉 。早些時候，俱樂部又簽下了梅西的好友阿圭羅 ，目前阿KUN也在督促同胞趕緊續約 。
梅西與巴塞羅那的現有合同將於6月30日到期 ，周薪達到58.4萬英鎊 。據悉 ，梅西的新合同為期兩年 ，薪水稍微降低 。當然，巴塞羅那會不會在6月24日宣布梅西續約 ，目前還是個未知數，因為他正在跟隨阿根廷征戰美洲杯 。
