西蒙尼在接受阿根廷《奧萊報》采訪時表示，忆老“他沒有死 ，马难他沒有死 。接受我的不当别滥意思是——我們很難接受他這樣的人已經不在了 。都不用說他的西蒙那些比賽 ，他的尼追年骂個性 ，這些我在還是忆老一個男孩的時候能在塞維利亞（馬拉多納曾於1992-1993賽季與西蒙尼共同效力於西班牙塞維利亞）和國家隊見證的東西 ，他作為一個人傳遞給我們的一切 。”
西蒙尼強調老馬的偉大 ，“他不僅是一個非凡的足球運動員 ，還是一個十分高尚和深受愛戴的人 ，沒有任何隊友會說他壞話 ，這很難得 ，這對他的生活來說也意義重大。”
至於兩人的軼事 ？西蒙尼透露了一個鮮為人知的故事 。“有一場比賽吧。我和他同時在場上 。我喜歡前插 ，然後我在離球門大概30米的地方就射門 。應該有30多米吧……然後他盯著我 ，非常生氣大聲質問 ：你從那個位置進過多少球 ？我說我不知道，然後他說 ：“你TM踢的是什麽……如果了解迭戈（馬拉多納）的為人 ，你都知道這根本沒什麽 ，盡管他說得快速而粗俗 ，但對我而言 ，還是很‘受用’。而且令人驚訝 ，在我印象裏 ，我此後幾乎再也沒從那麽遠的地方就射門了 。”
西蒙尼進一步解釋 ，“他非常清晰有力得運用自己的邏輯 ，告訴我這種愣頭青不要在那個位置射門，然後你需要在什麽地方射門 ，別瞎踢 。”
