紐卡斯爾官網發布公告稱 ：“在雙方都同意的踢球情況下 ，日本國腳武藤嘉紀解約離開了紐卡斯爾 ，官宣俱樂部和球員都同意協商解除最後一年合同。武藤紐卡斯爾的嘉纪解约每個人都感謝他在聖詹姆斯公園球場所付出的努力 ，並祝願他未來一切順利 。联赛”

武藤嘉紀在日本的FC東京俱樂部出道 ，2015年夏天加盟德甲美因茨，開始闖蕩歐洲足壇。武藤嘉紀在日本國家隊出場29次打進3球 ，隨日本國家隊參加了2018年世界杯。世界杯結束後年紐卡斯爾花費950萬英鎊從美因茨簽下了武藤嘉紀 ，並且為他開出了一份四年合同，周薪5.4萬英鎊 。
但武藤嘉紀在紐卡斯爾的表現並不令人滿意 ，上賽季被租借到埃瓦爾之後出場28次隻打進3球，最終紐卡斯爾確信這是一筆失敗的交易 ，並決定和合同隻剩一年的武藤嘉紀提前解約 。據天空體育報道 ，武藤嘉紀在恢複自由身後將重返日本J聯賽踢球 ，他很可能簽約加盟神戶勝利船 。
紐卡斯爾老板邁克-阿什利在去年曾試圖把俱樂部賣給沙特王儲穆罕默德-本-薩勒曼 ，但英超官方沒有審核通過這樁交易。俱樂部易主失敗之後邁克-阿什利對此非常不滿 ，並且進一步減少了對紐卡斯爾俱樂部的投入。
紐卡斯爾是今年夏天唯一還沒有引援的英超俱樂部 ，反而有不少球員合同到期或租借期滿後離隊 。英超新賽季將在下周末開始 ，紐卡主帥史蒂夫-布魯斯希望能引進一些球員補強陣容 ，他的首選目標是續租阿森納小將威洛克 ，並且從曼聯租借後衛圖安澤貝 。
