按照計劃 ，囧途中國男足球員應於5月15日中午12點前抵達上海建工浦江皇冠假日酒店駐地報到 ，国足隨後於當天下午進行40強賽賽前備戰衝刺階段的上海首次室外訓練。然而受近期華東 、吹响華南等地區氣候條件影響 ，强赛相當一部分國腳在赴滬過程中遭遇了比較嚴重的集结脚遇航班延誤或取消的麻煩 。而等到他們抵達上海 ，号国又遇高溫濕熱天氣 ，无碍不過這些困難並不是准点阻礙國足進行大賽備戰的理由 。國足將士於15日下午4點半準時出發 ，开练前往位於厚湃爾體育公園的囧途訓練場地進行本期集訓的首次訓練 。
共有27名球員躋身本期國足集訓和比賽陣容 ，国足效力於西班牙人俱樂部的上海前鋒武磊因5月18日才能返回上海 ，因此包括被補招的吹响門將王大雷 、後衛鄭錚在內 ，强赛將有26名球員參加球隊在上海的集訓 。
據了解 ，近來我國華東 、華南地區天氣變化幅度較大 。比如 ，近期由廣州飛赴上海的航班受兩地雷雨天氣影響 ，出現多次航班延誤甚至取消的情況 。為此 ，部分國腳選擇提前奔赴上海，像效力於廣州城隊的右後衛唐淼就於14日晚飛抵上海 ，他也成為本期國足集訓第一個報到的國腳 。此外 ，主教練李鐵及球隊管理人員也都於14日抵達上海 。
即便對可能出現的天氣原因有所預判 ，但部分國腳還是在前往上海的過程中遇到了麻煩。比如李磊原計劃於14日晚由北京前往上海 ，但直到15日早 ，他乘坐的航班才起飛 。一通折騰對李磊而言無異於遭遇了一段“囧途”，而於大寶 、張稀哲 、張玉寧 、李可4人直到15日下午4點左右 ，也就是全隊出發去訓練場前半小時 ，才抵達駐地酒店 。
如果說遭遇“囧途”對職業球員來說不足為奇，那麽上海15日驟升的氣溫與濕度無疑令他們感到不適 。上海15日下午的室外最高溫度達到了34攝氏度 ，好在國足的首次訓練課在下午5點才開始 。
天氣預報顯示 ，上海16日白天將重現降雨 ，溫度 、濕度也會相應發生變化 ，這也值得全隊注意 。畢竟大賽將至 ，球隊需要國腳們刻苦訓練，更需要他們保持身體健康 ，從而在比賽中全力以赴。
另據了解 ，受疫情及40強賽等因素影響 ，國足在本期集訓、比賽過程中 ，將全程嚴格遵守各項防疫規定，球隊在上海的集訓也不對外界開放 。
