《馬卡報》表示，卫遭該傷病出現的原因，主要是大腳趾延伸過度，導致最大的關節扭傷所致 ，通常會出現在腳趾彎曲過度以及奔跑受力中 。這一傷病在足球運動中並不常見 ，但在一些人工場地的運動中較為常見 ，比如NFL 。
據悉 ，埃裏克-加西亞的傷勢倒是不重，這種傷勢隻需要休戰2-3周即可 。雖然在歐洲杯中出局 ，但埃裏克-加西亞入選了西班牙國奧隊的名單 ，這意味著他還來得及趕上東京奧運會 。
