塔瓦雷斯的终结下課 ，直接源於烏拉圭在世預賽中步履維艱 。年国在還剩4輪的家队情況下，烏拉圭積16分排名南美第7 。生涯南美共有4.5張世界杯門票 ，乌拉烏拉圭比目前排名第四的圭岁哥倫比亞少了1分 。盡管積分差距不大 ，老帅雷但烏拉圭近期遭遇4連敗，塔瓦而且4場比賽丟10球隻進1球 。下课塔瓦雷斯似乎對烏拉圭隊失去了控製 ，终结這最終導致他被解雇 。
