2020年世界羽聯世界巡回賽馬來西亞大師賽繼續進行，中國隊又有兩人進入男單八強 。諶龍以2比0橫掃中國香港的李卓耀晉級八強 ，黃宇翔逆轉淘汰約根森闖入八強 。
諶龍是本次賽事的4號種子 ，他在首輪以2比0複仇衛冕冠軍孫完虎晉級 。從2019年下半年起 ，諶龍狀態明顯回升 ，目前他是國羽男單排名最高的球員 ，奧運排名也較為穩固，他的目標就是爭取有更高排位 。
諶龍和中國香港的李卓耀此前在世界羽聯賽事交手過2次，諶龍全部獲勝 。2019世錦賽上 ，諶龍曾以2比0擊敗李卓耀 。
開賽後諶龍就迅速進入狀態，他先得6分領跑。李卓耀逐漸進入狀態 ，他連續得分反攻，在6比10落後時連贏6分以12比10反超。諶龍沉著應對還擊兩分扳平，14平後諶龍把握機會 ，連拿3分以17比14反超。李卓耀又追3分再次扳平 ，諶龍毫不示弱 ，又拿3分以20比17得到局點 。李卓耀挽救一個局點 ，諶龍又得1分以21比18先下一城 。
第二局開始後李卓耀連續得分領跑 ，諶龍迅速追成3平 。5平後李卓耀連得3分重新領先 ，諶龍迅速還擊緊咬比分 。在10比11落後時諶龍把握住機會連得3分反超，李卓耀很快回應 。比分變為14比13後 ，諶龍掀起新一波攻勢 ，他一口氣連贏7分以21比13再下一城 ，以2比0獲勝晉級八強 。
黃宇翔保持好狀態 ，在14比21先丟一局的情況下 ，他奮起反彈 ，以21比19 、21比18連扳兩局 ，以2比1逆轉淘汰丹麥老將約根森 。這場比賽耗時1小時 。其他比賽中，桃田賢鬥、克裏斯蒂紛紛獲勝晉級。2號種子周天成被淘汰出局 ，他以0比2（21比23 、17比21）不敵中國香港的伍家朗 。
