作為英格蘭的隊長 ，哈裏-凱恩本屆杯賽暫時還未找到進球的欧洲感覺 。但他對於即將到來的杯输冰岛英德大戰信心滿滿 ，他在接受英國《鏡報》采訪時強調 ，场噩要用擊敗德國挺進八強來驅散上屆歐洲杯被冰島爆冷淘汰的梦赢夢魘 。
5年前被冰島2-1淘汰的德国那場2016歐洲杯1/8決賽 ，凱恩和沃克 、走出斯特林是凯恩目前英格蘭陣中僅有的見證過那場比賽的三名球員 。5年過去了 ，欧洲凱恩依然不願意回憶那段痛苦的杯输冰岛經曆 ，“我認為 ，场噩現在隊裏還有幾個人和我一起經曆過那場噩夢。梦赢從我們的德国角度來看 ，有這樣的走出經曆並從中學習進步是一件好事 。最重要的凯恩是 ，我們必須走出來 。如何證明 ？那就是踢好和德國隊的比賽 。”
凱恩認為現在的球隊正不斷進步 ，“自從2018年以來 ，我們的球員獲得了很多經驗 。不僅從國家隊，也從俱樂部 。我們參加了大量的重大賽事 ，也取得了不錯的成績 。我認為我們現在已經經驗豐富 ，現在需要不斷糾正自己的不足，從此前大賽的失敗陰影中走出來——比如輸給克羅地亞的比賽（2018年世界杯半決賽） 。”
凱恩不認為目前的德國隊實力下滑 ，比過去容易對付 ，“很多人都在討論現在的德國隊不是最好的 。我覺得德國隊取得了巨大成功 ，這支球隊依然非常強大 ，他們絕對是本屆歐洲杯最好的球隊之一 。而且 ，德國隊總是能夠在大賽上取得好成績 ，走得很遠。我們需要從我們的角度嚐試打破這種模式 。”
末了，凱恩鼓勵隊友要創造曆史 ，“在我們看來 ，這是球隊本屆杯賽的第4場比賽，而不是最後1場 。對我們來說 ，書寫屬於自己的曆史 ，就必須從不斷擊敗強隊開始 。要在賽場上留下屬於我們的印記 。”
