拉波爾塔被曝開出了一份簽約2年，西媒西续同時安排梅西長期擔任俱樂部大使工作的巴萨不愿合同 。但這份合同的队内大佬內容並不被西甲聯盟所接受 。而更糟糕的是此前巴薩已經接到了西甲聯盟的通知 ，全隊必須盡快降薪 ，以此避免大多數球員未來可能麵臨無法領到薪水的風險 。上賽季巴薩的隊內薪資為6.71億歐元 ，經過艱苦的努力才達到了3.827億歐元，但這依然距離西甲的要求數額有差距 。
西甲聯盟不斷逼迫巴薩降薪，一個關鍵原因是紅藍軍團的財政狀況非常糟糕 ，俱樂部負債12億歐元 ，而巴薩也沒有一個能夠管理或者減少債務的明確方案 。如果梅西繼續和巴薩簽約 ，這對於俱樂部來說是個沉重的負擔 ，所有球員必須接受更大幅度的降薪 。
足球俱樂部曆來為球員開出高薪都要麵臨著更衣室不滿的風險 ，當下有人因為梅西歸來 ，自己要腰包變薄，這顯然是無法接受的。畢竟巴薩大佬們還要生活 ，靠情懷不能當飯吃 。
