10月23日 ，足退洲杯第5屆U23亞洲杯預選賽第11小組比賽已在日本開踢 ，出亚柬埔寨U23隊在首比賽中以4比2擊敗中國香港隊 。预选员还受疫情影響 ，赛国中國1999年齡段U22國足已確認退賽 ，奥适這個結果無疑對中國青少年足球發展構成了影響 ，龄球落后也一定程度上加劇了國內足球人才青黃不接的没起窘況 。
事實上 ，跑已參加U23亞洲杯的足退洲杯重要意義不止是參賽 ，亞足聯當初推出這項賽事的出亚目的 ，就是预选员还把它視為各會員協會國（地區）代表隊衝擊各屆奧運會的重要練兵 ，這也是赛国亞足聯將這項賽事與奧預賽決賽階段合並的初衷所在 。雖然U23亞洲杯每隔2年舉辦一屆 ，奥适且第5屆賽事與奧運會並不掛鉤。龄球落后但這項賽事無疑是没起對亞足聯各會員協會國（地區）同年齡段人才水平的一次重要摸底 。
U23亞洲杯賽每逢雙數屆，就自動成為新一屆奧預賽決賽階段賽事 ，如2016年的第2屆 、2020年的第4屆均為奧預賽比賽。為此，日本足協無論時逢單數屆 ，還是雙數屆 ，都會指派由新一屆奧運會適齡球員組成的球隊參賽，哪怕以小打大 ，也堅持這樣的作法 。即便戰績不夠理想 ，日本足協也不願放棄給本國奧運適齡隊創造實戰鍛煉的機會 。
據了解 ，參加本屆U23亞洲杯預選賽的球隊中，除韓國隊等少數球隊外 ，大多數球隊都有意識效仿日本隊的作法 ，安排巴黎奧運會適齡球隊參賽 。比如，原本與中國U22隊同組的澳大利亞隊中 ，僅3人為1999-2000年齡段球員 ，其餘全部為2001年1月1日以後出生的球員 ，也就是巴黎奧運會適齡球員 。同樣原本與中國U22隊同組的印尼隊共征調了29名球員參加本次賽事的備戰集訓 ，其中12人為1999-2000年齡段球員 ，餘下17人全部為2001年齡段球員 。另外一組的柬埔寨隊的組隊情況大體也如此 。
從這個角度來說 ，新一屆2001年齡段中國國奧隊的適齡球員也失去了一次重要練兵機會 。而受疫情影響 ，國字號各級梯隊近期也很難落實高質量的國際熱身賽 。他們尚未在各條戰線上起跑，實際就已經處於落後的地位 。
