上半場比賽波蘭球員的气马拚搶非常凶狠 ，不斷加大身體對抗硬度 ，对手喋甚至出現各種抱摔動作 ，着裁這讓英格蘭球員難以適應 ，判喋尤其是格拉利什和凱恩等進攻核心頻頻受到對方重點“照顧” 。但是在上半場結束前 ，波蘭沒有球員領到黃牌 ，反而是英格蘭中場菲利普斯吃到一張黃牌 。主裁判的尺度似乎有點偏向於主隊波蘭 ，這讓英格蘭球員感到不滿 。
半場結束後，英格蘭中後衛馬奎爾和波蘭中衛格利克爆發了衝突 ，兩隊球員迅速圍攏在一起，雙方互相拉扯 。隨後格利克被隊友拉開，但是馬奎爾依舊對主裁判喋喋不休 ，甚至指著裁判表達不滿 。隨後主裁判向馬奎爾和格利克分別出示一張黃牌平息了事端 。
