馬裏奧在加盟國米後逐漸失去了主力位置，依据之後連續被出租到其他球隊，葡超上賽季他被租借回葡萄牙體育 ，豪门毫无並隨隊奪得葡超聯賽冠軍。指控國米不準備留用馬裏奧 ，但也難以為球員找到合適的買家 ，最終雙方在本周一宣布提前解約 。而馬裏奧在解約後立即自由加盟了本菲卡 ，這是葡萄牙體育在葡超的競爭對手 。由於球員采取了解約後再簽約的方式 ，國米無需向葡萄牙體育支付任何補償金 。
