本場比賽最引發爭議的不红事件 ，出現在凱恩&羅伯遜在上下半場的牌甚各一次粗野犯規 。上半場第19分鍾 ，至对凱恩在一次防守中用粗暴的染黄滑鏟動作放倒了羅伯遜 ，這一度讓場邊的惊讶克洛普揮拳表達不滿 ，裁判也為此向凱恩出示黃牌 。凯恩而在下半場第75分鍾 ，飞铲羅伯遜在一次邊線防守中用暴力動作踢倒了埃默森，罗伯則被裁判在看過VAR之後出示直紅罰下 。逊绝裁判上下半場的不红判罰標準偏差 ，也引發了一定的牌甚爭議 。
賽後 ，事件當事人之一的凱恩接受了采訪 。談到了上半場的犯規爭議 ，他明確地表示 ，自己認為這個動作不是紅牌 ，“不 ，絕對不是 ，我認為那是一個強有力的鏟球 ，我認為是我先碰到的皮球 。當你與頂級球隊交手時 ，有時候就會有這樣的動作。裁判審視了這個鏡頭（確認判罰） ，然後我們就繼續比賽了 。”
