顯然 ，馬丁內斯是故意用這種方式挑釁C羅 ，希望以此影響對方罰點球的心態 。不過隨後主罰點球的並不是C羅 ，而是B費 。但B費卻把點球踢飛了 。此時的馬丁內斯又朝著老特拉福德球場看台上的曼聯球迷們挺動胯部，這個動作非常具有嘲諷性質 。
不少球迷在社交媒體上表示：“絕對**的挑釁 ，來自馬丁內斯 ，他直接要求C羅主罰點球 ，就在B費將點球罰失之前 。”“馬丁內斯就是這樣的國王，他幫助梅西贏得了在國家隊的首個獎杯 ，並嘲諷C羅踢點球 。”“我愛馬丁內斯 。”
值得一提的是 ，這並不是馬丁內斯首次在點球前挑釁對手 。在今夏美洲杯半決賽中，阿根廷和哥倫比亞打到點球大戰 ，當哥倫比亞球員米納主罰點球前，馬丁內斯故意對米納說：“我可以看出你很緊張 ，我知道你會朝哪個方向踢 。看我怎麽撲出來 。”結果米納果然罰失了點球，而馬丁內斯則幫助阿根廷贏得點球大戰晉級決賽 ，並最終奪得美洲杯冠軍 。
