北京時間4月7日 ，韩国韓國足協在坡州NFC舉辦了新聞發布會 ，队主韓國國家隊主帥保羅-本托出席，帅世談到了卡塔爾世界杯小組賽的界杯竭尽分組 。
在此前的想小线难卡塔爾世界杯小組賽抽簽中 ，韓國與葡萄牙 、组出加納 、去争烏拉圭一起被分到H組。韩国一般來說 ，队主世界杯都是帅世在6月舉行 ，但由於此次的界杯竭尽東道主為卡塔爾 ，因此本屆世界杯將在比較涼爽的想小线难11月開幕 。
韓國隊在卡塔爾世界杯的组出首戰是對陣烏拉圭 ，這場比賽將在當地時間11月24日進行 。去争從過往的韩国交手戰績來看 ，韓國隊明顯處於劣勢 ，“太極虎”對陣烏拉圭的成績是1勝1平6負 。在2010年南非世界杯賽場上，韓國隊在16強賽中1-2不敵烏拉圭隊 。但是，在兩隊最近的一場對決中 ，韓國隊取得了勝利 。2018年10月份的友誼賽，韓國隊在主場憑借黃義助和鄭又榮的破門2-1擊敗烏拉圭隊 。
在和烏拉圭的比賽結束後 ，韓國將迎來卡塔爾世界杯的第二個對手加納 ，這場比賽將在11月28日進行。兩隊的交手記錄是3勝3負 ，五五開 。因此 ，對於韓國隊來說 ，H組的加納是其必須要戰勝的對手 。
韓國隊在卡塔爾世界杯小組賽的最後一個對手是C羅領銜的葡萄牙 ，這場比賽將在12月2日開打，韓國希望能夠再次上演“奇跡” 。在2002韓日世界杯上 ，韓國與葡萄牙也被分在一組 ，當時韓國憑借樸智星的進球1-0戰勝了葡萄牙 ，以小組第一進入16強 ，而五盾軍團則遺憾無緣淘汰賽階段 。
新聞發布會上 ，保羅-本托表示：“韓國隊被分在了一個艱難的小組 ，一個比較難出線的小組。我們需要麵對三支優秀的球隊 ，而其中兩支球隊都有晉級16強的實力 ，但我們仍會盡其所能的去爭奪出線名額 。”
