姆巴佩在2017年橫空出世 ，蹿红幫助摩納哥在歐冠聯賽中一路高歌猛進，导致德尚同時法甲聯賽力壓巴黎聖日耳曼成為冠軍 。已经此後法國新大帝的姆巴成長速度猶如坐上了火箭，首次參加世界杯就打進4球，佩火膨胀而且成功隨隊奪冠，箭般极度個人首次大賽表現完爆梅西和C羅 ，甚至追平了貝利的多項上古神跡。
此後法國隊隊內無人可以阻擋姆巴佩前進的勢頭 。帶著足夠的信心，姆巴佩開始了本屆歐洲杯之旅 。年輕人擁有十足的幹勁是好事 ，但姆巴佩的情緒就像是一個被吹得過猛的氣球，開始迷失自我 。在比賽中 ，法國前鋒總是幻想自己利用快人一步的節奏 ，打出一過二或者一過三的神奇進球 ，但最終姆巴佩的單打獨鬥都被對手聯袂化解 。
進攻自由度和戰術紀律本身就是兩個相悖的概念 ，顯然德尚為了發揮姆巴佩的關鍵作用，對於這位新銳前鋒過於放縱了 。多位法國名宿甚至已經開始批評德尚 ，給予姆巴佩的自由度超乎現象 。前國腳羅滕就擔心 ，姆巴佩會因為過熱的頭腦而毀掉自己 ，德尚過於放縱姆巴佩 ，這簡直匪夷所思。或許德尚背後的辛酸 ，是自己根本無法再駕馭姆巴佩了 。

或許姆巴佩自己都已經記錯了C羅在點球大戰的主罰習慣 ：如果葡萄牙隊率先主罰點球 ，C羅會選擇第五個出場。如果葡萄牙隊後主罰點球，C羅則會第一個出場 。前法國名宿勒伯夫就指出 ：“主罰第五個點球的人隻是想出風頭 ，真正的領袖不會在這個輪次出場主罰點球 。”
姆巴佩未來要走的路還很長 ，比如此次歐洲杯麵對重壓 ，罰丟了關鍵點球 ，法國前鋒還需要更加強大的心理建設。對陣瑞士向本澤馬的“喂餅” ，竟然是姆巴佩在國際大賽中的第一次助攻，顯然法國前鋒在進攻端的殺敵手段還不算全能。
