穆裏尼奧如此寫道 ：“96年歐洲杯 ，对苏的意英格蘭對戰蘇格蘭的格兰那場比賽，我就在比賽的狮更現場 ，那也是穆帅我第一次來到溫布利大球場 。對於我這一代熱愛足球的人來說 ，溫布利球場就是一個神話般的地方 。當時我在巴薩工作 ，巴薩要求我去英國一個月 ，在歐洲杯上尋找出色的球員。”
“當時的我非常幸運 ，沒有人認識我 ，我可以在英國的地鐵上隨便逛 ，同時也是享受足球的另一個方麵 。我來到溫布利球場時 ，被當時的場景震驚了 。在這個令人驚歎的球場裏，到處都是激情 ，周圍都是滿滿的足球氛圍。”
“英格蘭與蘇格蘭的對決 ，我知道這場比賽意味著什麽 ，尤其是對於蘇格蘭來說 ，這場比賽意義更是重大 ，他們踢這樣的比賽動力很足 。蘇格蘭非常勇敢，但是在足球世界裏 ，以弱勝強的幾率不高 。蘇格蘭此番能在溫布利贏球嗎？當然可以 ，足球世界任何事都會發生 。但是英格蘭顯然是那支更好的球隊，他們有更好的球員 。另外 ，英格蘭隻要在未來的兩場比賽拿到1分就可以出線。”
