格雷澤家族買入曼聯後 ，英媒一直很少對球隊投資 ，曼联迷计而是高层將紅魔當成斂財的工具，而且自從弗格森離開曼聯後 ，为安紅魔就再也沒有拿到英超冠軍 。抚球外加不久前的划万歐超事件 ，球迷們對於曼聯高層非常憤怒 ，镑购因此也有了雙紅會前的抗議 。
此前有消息稱，格雷澤家族並不想賣掉曼聯 ，他們會利用紅魔繼續賺錢 ，但是此番麵對著球迷的逼宮 ，格雷澤家族也坐不住了 。英國媒體《太陽報》的消息稱 ，為了安撫球迷，曼聯將會在今夏拿出9000萬英鎊求購熱刺中鋒凱恩 。
凱恩多個賽季以來一直保持著超高的競技狀態 ，本賽季各項賽事為熱刺打入31球助攻16次 ，製造了47個進球 。但是在熱刺效力期間一直無法獲得冠軍成為了凱恩的痛，在接受采訪時凱恩如此說道：“這些個人榮譽很棒 ，但當我在生涯尾聲階段回顧時 ，作為一名球員 ，我最想贏得 、且最重要的是團隊冠軍 。是的 ，現在的目標就是贏得球隊的一些獎杯 。”
從凱恩的話中可以看出 ，他渴望離開熱刺到一支可以贏得冠軍的球隊踢球 。而曼聯也有引進凱恩安撫球迷的需要 ，這或許是一個雙贏的結局 。需要指出的是 ，熱刺主席列維認為凱恩的身價為1.7億英鎊 ，但是《太陽報》認為在目前的形勢下，曼聯9000萬英鎊的報價非常公平 。
