北京時間8月6日下午17點 ，巴薩主席拉波爾塔在諾坎普出席了新聞發布會。尔塔拉波爾塔此行的梅西主要目的 ，是再无解釋巴薩為何無法與梅西完成續約 。
拉波爾塔表示梅西離隊已定 ：“我不想給大家虛假的巴萨希望 ，球員的永远確收到了其它報價，而且我們雙方在談判時也都設置了截止日 。拉波一切都源於財政公平法案 ，尔塔梅西要評估其它報價 。梅西我們談了兩個多月 ，再无我們經曆過很多階段。巴萨首先 ，永远我們談妥了一份2年合同，拉波薪水會在5年內支付。尔塔梅西同意了 ，梅西我們對他很感激。梅西已經做出了很大的犧牲 ，我本以為這可以通過西甲審查 。這在其它國家可能沒問題 ，但在西甲不行 。
西甲官方向我們施壓 ，他們不想其它俱樂部也用這種方式續約 。然後我們談妥了一份5年合同 ，梅西也同意了 。他有自己的想法 ，他打算在巴薩至少再效力兩年 。我們本希望兩年後再分別 ，而不是今天 。我們都希望繼續享受梅西的魔法 ，但西甲仍然不同意這份五年合同 。後來我們意識到 ，我們無論如何都無法達標了 。我隻能接受現狀 ，在財政公平的框架下 ，我們沒有空間了 。”
“梅西配得上一切 ，他已經證明了自己 ，他的願望就是留在巴薩 。如果談個人想法的話 ，我很傷心 ，但我們必須做出對俱樂部最佳的決定 。”拉波爾塔繼續說道，“梅西留下了偉大的遺產 ，他已經締造了曆史，他是俱樂部史上最成功的運動員，他是巴薩曆史的標杆 ，他是史上最佳 。現在我們開啟了新時代 ，之前是梅西的時代 ，如今是後梅西時代 ，就像薩米蒂爾 、庫巴拉 、克魯伊夫也曾經離開那樣 。梅西留下了太多快樂 ，他取得了很多團隊成功 ，他是球隊曆史象征 ，俱樂部永遠感謝他 。”
拉波爾塔談到巴薩薪金狀況 ：“比例是4比1，我們要開出2500萬薪水 ，就必須釋放1000萬歐元的空間 。隻需要大幅度降薪 ，我們正在努力削減整體薪資支出 。我們已經與有些球員達成了一致 ，但與有些球員談判並不容易 。球員們很多已經降薪過了 ，讓他們再次降薪可不容易，但我們必須繼續努力 。我們已經超標110%了 ，這是無法接受的 ，我們必須繼續這樣降薪 。為什麽我們能簽下新援 ？因為他們接受了降薪 。但他們的降薪幅度，並不足以幫助我們留住梅西 。”
