根據賽程顯示，国足中國隊首輪將於9月2日對陣澳大利亞 。赛程首轮關於是月日否恢複主客場製暫無定論 。
上屆世預賽12強賽,客战國足與韓國 、伊朗、利亚轮冲敘利亞 、最后烏茲別克斯坦和卡塔爾分在同一小組,刺抢球隊最終以3勝3平4負的戰績位列小組第五名,未能晉級俄羅斯世界杯。
