此次女足奧預賽附加賽采取主客場兩回合製 ，合分韩国規則是兩回合總比分占優者晉級；如果雙方兩回合總比分戰平 ，客場進球數多者晉級；如果雙方客場進球數一樣 ，將進行加時賽；如果加時賽再次戰平 ，加時賽客場進球數多者晉級；若加時賽還無法分出勝負 ，就將通過殘酷的點球大戰決定一張晉級門票歸屬。
根據目前的形勢，中國女足次回合隻要不敗即可確保進軍東京奧運會 ，即使輸球 ，如果是0-1小負 ，由於有客場進球數優勢 ，仍是中國隊出線；若在常規時間1-2落敗，那麽將進行加時賽爭奪；隻有出現極端情況，即丟2球或2球以上的淨負一球（2-3/3-4等） ，或者淨負韓國女足2球或2球以上才有出局可能 。
不過在此前中韓女足的38次交鋒中 ，中國女足贏下了其中的27場 ，而隻輸給過對手6次 ，其中最近一次敗給對手是2015年女足亞洲杯上 ，當時也不過是0-1的小負 。就像主教練賈秀全在首回合開始前說得那樣 ：“我更希望這次通過中國女足的出色發揮 ，我能夠作為教練和女足隊員們一起拿到奧運會入場券 ！”（卓奧友）
