本屆12強賽 ，球队越南隊表現不俗，南盾主場對陣中國隊時3-1取勝 。越媒越南亿昨晚客場對陣日本隊 ，历史越南隊先攻入一球 ，首次可最終還是战平足协被日本隊扳平比分 ，但這是日本越南隊曆史上首次在正式比賽中與日本隊踢平 。賽後 ，奖励越南足協對球隊給予了高度評價 ，球队並決定獎勵球隊15億越南盾（折合人民幣約417300元） 。值得一提的是 ，此前主場3-1擊敗中國男足時 ，越南隊獲得了66億越南盾的獎勵，其中20億越南盾來自越南足協 。
目前世預賽亞洲區12強賽已經落下帷幕 ，越南隊取得1勝1平8負的成績 ，積4分排在B組積分榜倒數第一。
