在踏上韓國高陽市體育場的将放草皮之前 ，中國女足的手搏姑娘們已經有420天沒有出現在國際賽場上 。直到比賽前一天 ，人民日报中國女足才公布了球隊20人大名單，女足能过這讓球隊保持了一定的于乐神秘感 。與去年2月進行的观韩国队東京奧運會預選賽出征名單相比 ，如今中國女足的将放陣容有了較大變化 ，球隊補充了“新鮮血液”，手搏當時因配合疫情防控未能隨隊出征的人民日报王霜歸隊 。
雖然中國女足陣容出現變化 ，女足能过但主力框架未受太大影響 ，于乐吳海燕 、王珊珊 、唐佳麗等名將悉數登場 。比賽開始後 ，配合默契的中國女足更早進入狀態，開場僅5分鍾就創造了兩次不錯的機會 ，但細節處理和臨門一腳稍欠火候。
中國女足在第三十二分鍾打破僵局 ，埋伏在對方禁區內的張馨接隊友長傳 ，門前墊射攻進一球 。第三十九分鍾，韓國女足名將池笑然送出直傳 ，薑綵林快速插上破門，將比分扳為1∶1 。
在下半場比賽的大多數時間裏 ，兩隊狀態膠著 ，直到第七十一分鍾，韓國女足後衛在本方禁區內踢倒唐佳麗，裁判判罰點球 ，王霜頂住壓力主罰命中 。中國女足以2∶1領先 。隨後，中國女足化解了韓國女足的多次進攻 ，將勝果保持到終場 。
賽後 ，中國女足主教練賈秀全表示 ，首發陣容的表現“達到了預期” 。他說 ：“這是一場有壓力的比賽，我告訴球員要敢於發揮 ，要更勇敢 ，球員做到了 。”對於接下來兩隊次回合的比賽 ，賈秀全認為中國女足球員的發揮會更好 。
