雖然曼城與榜首利物浦之間的分差達到了8分 ，但藍月軍團與第二名萊斯特城之間的分差也就4分 ，這也為曼城日後的逆轉埋下了伏筆。隨著利物浦在賽季下半場遭遇了滑鐵盧，曼城也漸漸地後來居上 ，牢牢地占據了英超積分榜榜首的寶座 。事實上 ，曼城也是39年以來聖誕排名最低的英格蘭頂級聯賽冠軍 ，早在1981-82賽季 ，最終奪冠的利物浦曾在聖誕時位列聯賽第12位 。
