事實上 ，原本事態一直還在警方的控製中 ，衝突全麵升級爆發的導火索來自賽場內——比賽結束前3分鍾 ，那不勒斯前鋒奧斯梅恩將場上比分扳平，伴隨著那不勒斯球迷的歡呼、叫囂和嘲諷聲 ，人數占據絕對優勢的主場球迷終於還是坐不住了……大量的萊斯特城球迷翻過原本用防水布隔離的雙方球迷看台 ，利用手邊的一切物品作為武器 ，開始了“進攻” 。《太陽報》特別提到了不少球迷抽下了隨身的皮帶作為武器。大約有250名那不勒斯球迷被主隊球迷圍在一個小區域內，最終還是在安保人員的協助下 ，才得以退場 。
