曼城乘坐的利物包機無法在當地機場降落 ，從地麵拍攝的惊魂視頻可以看到 ，飛機在強風的作用下前後左右不斷搖擺 ，甚至一度在飛行時幾乎處於懸停狀態 ，隻能加大推力來抵抗惡劣天氣保持穩定 ，飛機後方甚至一度冒煙 。最終飛機在繞著曼徹斯特機場飛了三圈後，最終確定太危險無法降落，之後飛機改變航線轉而前往利物浦降落在約翰-列儂機場 。
曼城俱樂部官方推特表示 ：“我們可以確認 ，從裏斯本運送一線隊回家的飛機已經安全降落在利物浦 ，在強風迫使飛機離開曼徹斯特之後 。”利物浦機場也證實了這個消息 ：“歡迎曼城在今天下午安全地來到了英格蘭足球之都 ，因為他們的航班遭遇強風後離開了家鄉機場 。”
