歐冠決賽往往是一個賽季最終的壓軸大戲 ，今年利物浦與皇馬為球迷們帶來了一場堪稱“係統局”的足球視覺盛宴。

超級決賽是由歐足聯與南美足聯聯合舉辦的一項賽事 ，旨在讓這兩個代表世界足球頂尖水平的大洲的冠軍球隊一較高下，超級決賽的名字大概也就是這麽來的吧 。
第三任歐足聯主席弗蘭奇在1983年不幸遭遇車禍逝世 ，為了紀念他 ，歐足聯與南美足聯在1985年舉辦了第一屆弗蘭奇杯，對陣雙方是應屆歐洲杯冠軍法國隊及美洲杯冠軍烏拉圭隊 。與今年的歐冠決賽一樣 ，當年那場比賽也在巴黎舉行 ，最終法國隊攜主場優勢2-0戰勝對手，取得了首屆賽事的冠軍 。
第二屆弗蘭奇杯在1993年舉辦 ，比賽地點為阿根廷的馬德普拉塔 ，對陣雙方是在歐洲杯上創造“丹麥童話”奪冠的丹麥隊及應屆美洲杯冠軍阿根廷隊。最終，阿根廷隊通過點球大戰取得了勝利 ，馬拉多納 、巴蒂斯圖塔以及現任馬競主帥西蒙尼都在該場比賽中打入了點球 。
弗蘭奇杯也是馬拉多納為阿根廷隊贏下的最後一座獎杯 。
當年弗蘭奇杯的火爆很快引起了國際足聯的關注 。那個時候 ，沙特阿拉伯斥重金邀請各大洲的應屆冠軍在1992年及1995年舉辦了兩屆法赫德國王杯 ，這項友誼賽性質的杯賽原本並沒有多大影響力 ，但眼紅弗蘭奇杯的國際足聯在1997年直接出手接過了法赫德國王杯組織工作 ，並以此為基礎推出了聯合會杯 ，弗蘭奇杯因此停辦 。
由於歐洲、南美之外地區的足球發展水平相對落後 ，聯合會杯因精彩性不足逐漸淪為了雞肋賽事，最終國際足聯在2019年廢除了這項賽事 。這也讓超級決賽有機會在如今重新回到了曆史舞台 。
本屆超級決賽的對陣雙方是意大利隊及阿根廷隊 ，比賽地點在倫敦的溫布利球場 。
