魯尼目前擔任英冠球隊德比郡主帥，心情训练由於球員不足 ，魯尼也參加了隊內訓練 。也許是受到這次醜聞的影響 ，心情不好的魯尼在一次拚搶時鏟傷了自家球員傑森-奈特的腳踝 。《鏡報》表示 ，當時兩人是爭奪一次二分之一球 ，傑森-奈特的受傷被視為是一次意外。
魯尼表示：“傑森將缺席8到12周 。他的腳踝扭傷了，幸好無需接受手術，但仍需要時間確保他的腳踝重新恢複強壯 。這當然是一次巨大的打擊 ，每個人都知道傑森能為我們帶來什麽 ，他是一名出色的球員 ，精力充沛 。他的缺席將是一大損失 ，但我們必須應對這個問題。”
上賽季魯尼率領德比郡艱難保級 ，但俱樂部易主失敗後財務危機嚴重 ，今年夏天德比郡還被處罰遭遇轉會禁令 ，不過依然可以簽下自由球員或租借球員 。目前德比郡隊內球員人數不足 ，隻有9名一線隊球員 ，其中還包括2名門將 ，這也是魯尼不得不親自參加訓練的原因 。新賽季的英冠聯賽在兩周後就將開戰 ，傑森-奈特這次受傷讓球隊雪上加霜 。
