在危難之際 ，此前曾經兩次執教過荷蘭國家隊的範加爾成為了媒體追捧的對象 。而來自《荷蘭電訊報》的消息 ，荷蘭足協也渴望範加爾執教國家隊，足協高層將在今天與明天與範加爾就擔任荷蘭國家隊主帥一職進行交流。據悉 ，一旦範加爾同意執教荷蘭 ，足協會在下周提交給足協監事會審核和批準 。若通過，範加爾會立即出任荷蘭主帥 。
《荷蘭電訊報》稱，荷蘭足協也不會在一棵樹上吊死 ，除了範加爾外 ，荷蘭還有B計劃與C計劃 。其中B計劃是一名荷蘭籍的主帥 ，而C計劃是外籍主帥 。但不到萬不得已 ，荷蘭不會邀請外籍主帥 。
