最近一段時間 ，欧足國際足聯通過不同渠道發聲 ，联官两年熱炒“世界杯從四年一屆改成兩年一屆”的议年話題 。如今歐足聯發布官方公告稱 ，起世國際足聯的界杯届確提出了這一議案。國際足聯想改的欧足不僅僅是世界杯 ，而且還希望歐洲杯 、联官两年美洲杯、议年亞洲杯之類洲際比賽也改為兩年一屆！起世
歐足聯在官方公告中指出 ，界杯届國際足聯的欧足確提交了一項提案 。從2025年開始，联官两年各大洲的议年洲際杯賽改為兩年一屆 。而從2028年開始 ，起世世界杯也改為兩年一屆 。界杯届與此同時 ，國際足聯還打算對國際比賽日程進行大規模的重組和改製。
對於國際足聯的舉動 ，歐足聯表示“感到失望” 。歐足聯稱在9月14日就要求與國際足聯舉行特別會議，以表達對這些計劃的擔憂 。但迄今為止 ，國際足聯尚未予以回複 ，如今已經是9月23日了 。歐足聯指出 ，國際足聯不應該在沒有與相關各方進行商議的情況下 ，就公開宣傳並且推動這種激進式改革 。
對於改製 ，歐足聯提出了四大潛在危險 。第一 ，是足球大賽的價值被淡化 。四年一屆的大賽伴隨著幾代球迷成長 ，四年的時間會給球迷足夠的期待感。第二 ，用頻繁的大賽取代常規國家隊比賽 ，這會減少足球弱國的比賽機會。第三 ，國腳球員們將會在每個夏天都參加大型杯賽 ，無法像現在這樣每隔一年休息一次 。第四 ，在原本屬於女足的專屬賽事年安排男足國際大賽 ，這顯然會進一步擠占女足的生存空間 。
